Goodbye England…………

Posted on

Today’s the day. Our belongings are currently on a  ship about to sail to Australia and this evening we board our flight to Singapore for a little break away and to break up the long journey before starting our new lives in Australia.

Still in shock that this is actually happening and just going to keep this short (for various reasons)

I will be back in this space soon, to let you know how we’re getting on in the sunshine, but I’ve scheduled in a few posts that I’ve written in advance to give you something to read in the meantime……….

But for now, farwelll, I’ll be back here soon xx

Introducing travel blog – Bedbugs and Beaches

Posted on

I have been working on setting up another blog for a couple of months now and it’s (almost) finished so thought I would share with you my experiences and a few photos from my travels.

Apart from European holidays, neither my husband (then ‘boyfriend’) or I had seen much of the World so in 2007 we went on a fantastic trip, we stopped off first in Hong Kong, then flew to Thailand where we spent a couple of months travelling through, then through Malaysia and to Singapore. We then flew on to Australia and spent 6 months there before flying to New Zealand where we hired out a campervan as our temporary ‘home’. We then visited Fiji, Hawaii and several stops accross the USA before heading back to the UK in March 2008. Since then we have visited Brussels, Prague, Rome, Marseille, Scotland, and we spent our fantastic honeymoon in Japan.

We both love to travel and I really hope to be able to visit Japan again one day – I adore the country, the culture, the language, the food, the history…..everything about the place! Also on the top of my list is Russia, China, Mongolia, Kenya, Norway and Canada……hopefully one day a couple of those destination dreams my become wonderful memories!

I’ll hopefully finish off updating thost other places very soon, but for now feel free to head over to Bedbugs and Beaches (there will be a link up there at the top of the page too)

…… a bit late, and some more snow.

I’m a bit late in sharing this post, I’ve been a bit otherwise distracted. Nothing of any particular interest, just the daily things that sometimes seem to take longer to do. I’ve been spending my evenings knitting and sewing, my days running around little ‘T’ – she is oh so much fun now, but her teeth are still causing her upset and she seems to forever have a cold whenever it gets chilly. I think we are all in need of some Singapore sunshine (despite my absolute LOVE of snow!)

We had a little bit of snow last night – enough for the garden and trees to look very pretty in the morning – I was excited to bring ‘T’ downstairs and show her the view from the window whilst we sat in the warm eating our porridge and honey, I love the cosy feeling that is created when it’s all white and quiet outside.

Little ‘T’ said that she wanted to “go in the garden and build a snowman and throw meatballs?!” she does make me laugh every day these days! I had been a bit worried that ‘T’ wouldn’t see snow before we leave so I was deperate to get out in the garden with her first thing this morning, we went for a walk to the local shop to get a few supplies and then ventured out into the garden and Grandma’s garden too. The ducks were making a lot of noise in the stream at the bottom of the garden, think that may have something to do with a cat who had managed to catch a bird (I think it was a poor morehen but wasn’t to keen on looking to closely). I love these snow, cosy days with ‘T’. Oh I do love my little one, so, so much. xx

Sorting, stacking, selling.

We are on the count down.

Just a couple of months left. I can’t quite believe it, I’m not sure how I can’t quite believe it – as our house resembles less of a home and more of a stock room these days. I seem to be making so many lists, researching so much, selling all of our extra ‘stuff’ (seriously – where does it all come from?). Thank goodness for freecycle and ebay!

We leave the UK on 5th April where we will fly to Singapore with Singapore Airlines for a little while, then we will land in Adelaide on 11th April, we have a short-term rental for a month when we get there – in which time we need to find a long-term rental , a car and a job for ‘S’. We aren’t taking a hugs amount with us, just our personal belongings and a couple of pieces of furniture, the rest we will have to purchase when we get there (thank heavens for Ikea!)

I’m currently putting the ‘goodbyes’ out of my mind, can’t bear to think about that bit, and evenings are mostly spent researching different areas to live and finding out so much useful advice and information on the pomsinadelaide forum. I honestly do not know how I would be doing this move without that forum – it has been such a huge wealth of information for us and complete strangers have even been so kind as to offer us a house-full of furniture and toys whilst we wait for our shipment to arrive (it will take 4 months for our things to arrive?!)

Anyway, here’s how corners of our home are looking at the moment, in just over 6 months time we should have a home somewhere that looks like a normal home, and not one with ‘stuff’ everywhere!
