Weekending

Posted on

This weekend I have been:

  • Eating Tapas as our Saturday night treat. It made a deliciously lovely change!
  • Dreading falling asleep at night as I know I will be woken up many times throughout the night by little ‘T’. I’m getting bored of trawling through library books, websites, and moaning about it, I think I may just have to reside to the fact that one day she will sleep but for now I have to try and stay awake and keep positive on little sleep!
  • Enjoying seeing the spring bulbs coming into flower in various places.
  • Taking comfort in making lots of soup and cheesy scones with ‘T’.
  • Out for a splashy-puddle walk.
  • Slumping on the sofa in the evenings and looking for knitting ideas, this new hobby of mine is a good one to do when tired!
  • Visiting the in-laws for our last meal before our move away.

and on another note:

I have stopped knitting the dolly cardigan Ok, so here is the final look of the dolly’s cardigan. I’m not going for a one-armed look, it’s just that I’m not going to finish it as there are just toooooo many mistake on that arm! I intended it to be a practice piece (thanks goodness I didn’t do anything bigger!) As I wanted to learn how to use circular needles, dpns and try out some new stitches too so it was a great size for learning on, I was hoping that it may resemble something worth saving for dolly to wear but I can’t face looking at it with all of those mistakes!:

I’ve managed to get a little bit creative (thankfully) and start knitting a little scarf for ‘T’ – I managed to get a whole bag full of left-over wool from freecycle so I’m using up some of the colours from that.

It’s a bit dull to knit a scarf, I know, but I need something simple and easy to do whilst I’m busy sorting out the house for our move to Australia soon (under 13 weeks now – eeeeeeeekk!)

I was also recommended to read books by Anita Shreve by my very good friend and I’m so pleased she suggested them as so far I’m hooked and I’m only a little way in!

Adding this into Ginny’s ‘Yarn along’ over at Small Things………..

Knitting and reading

I’ve decided to give the knitting another go. I’m doing a great little design from Easy Care Knits and I’ve only just started but so far so good!

I’m currently reading a few books at the moment. I’m really enjoying ‘The First Wife’ by Emily Barr – I love all of her books and this one is a bit different than her usual types and took a bit longer for me to get into but all the same it’s a good read! We are doing lots of research on where to live in Adelaide so a where to live guide is often being skim-read (so much to read up on!). I’m also dipping in and out of Gina Ford’s ‘The Complete Sleep Guide for Contented Babies and Toddlers’ as well as ‘Toddler Taming’ by Dr. Christopher Green’ which was recommended by our Dr, we are still struggling with getting little ‘T’ to sleep well so I’m always reading up on what the problem could or couldn’t be!

Drying, baking, sewing, making

Some pictures from the past week, I haven’t been online very much, ‘T’ has been suffering terribly with her teeth for the last 10 days, she’s only slept through one night (thankfully the night before I needed to go on an 8 mile run in the morning, phew!) and has been waking 5-6 times every night leaving us both exhausted and grumpy. It’s good to know this is just a ‘stage’ and will pass!

My husband brought home a bag full of walnuts last week – how fantastic are these!:

I have dried them in the oven and now they are drying on the side, I hope it works and that they are okay to eat for Christmas! (just think of all the cakes I can make!)

I’ve started to make a tiny Waldorf doll for ‘T’ though it’s proving quite fiddly – it’s currently with ‘T’s Grandma so that she can crochet her a wig – far too tricky for me!:

We found this sweet little shelf at a car boot sale a few weeks ago for a bargain price of two pounds!!! My husband put it up in the kitchen last night and I’m really pleased with it:

It’s been quite chilly here too with the first bit of frost in the morning so I made a batch of muffins, the cinamon, pecan and raisin ones were lovely whilst still warm from the oven with some custard!:

Hope you all had a lovely weekend xx

Yellow snood scarf completed!

Hurrah! My first ‘real’ knitting project completed! I’m really pleased with it – it’s a bit more ‘snug’ than I was hoping for but all the same it will do the job over the winter! I’ve dropped a stitch as well but overall I’m pleased with it. I cast on 130 rows on to 7mm pins and used really chunky acrylic wool.

Now for some snow please!

Don’t forget to head over to ‘Handmade Monday’ to catch up with some other blogs! and of course ‘Small things’ for the ‘Yarn Along’ section t osee some MUCH better knitting jobs than this one!

Yarn Along – my first attempt at a snood & Emily Barr – ‘The Life You Want’

Posted on

I have been following a blog called ‘Small Things’ over the past few months and I cannot begin to explain how inspirational it is. Click here to take a peek – it’s so beautifully written and captured and she’s living my dream of having 6 children living in the countryside !

I’ve also seen lots of photos of snoods on pinterest lately and not having much cash has encouraged me to pick up the knitting pins again and give it another go. Ok, so it must be the most basic knitting ever but I;m hoping that it will look okay once it’s complete!

Also I’ve been thoroughly enjoying another book by Emily Barr, it;s a bit of a trasshy travel/parenting novel but it reminds me of my back-packing days and she manages to really portray her time in India as if I were there too, it’s been really enjoyable to get back into a book again and take the time to knit.
